Is religion important to you?
First of all, I must specify that I do not come from a religious family and for this reason It is a subject that I do not know well.
When I was a child, I thought religion was synonymous with evil and indoctrination. Indeed, there are thousands of examples where different religions play a perverse role within a society, justifying massacres, indoctrination, servitude, hierarchies, etc. An example of this is the Inquisition, a dark time where Catholicism reigned, in which they persecuted any individual who seemed suspicious and did not adhere to Christian morality (witch hunt).
However, as I got older, I realized that religion was not inherently bad. The Inquisition killed in the name of Christianity, but they did not really exercise Christian values: Christianity tells you to love your neighbor, the Inquisition did just the opposite.
Moreover, religion are beliefs and everyone has their own beliefs: some believe in science, others in God and others in the free market (for example). And there is no problem.
I think that the problem is when your belief turns into doctrine and reject free thinking.
Likewise, a belief is bad when it makes you hate someone who doesn't think like you.
